It was a beautiful morning, and these strawberries could not be sweeter. If you’re interested in taking a trip to Plantersville here are some tips:

1. Call ahead to make sure there are plenty of strawberries. Although there are two giant fields to pick in, you may want to make sure you’re not visiting after any large groups.

2. Bring your own basket. If you bring a heavy basket, make sure to stop into the store before you head out to the fields and have them weigh your basket. They will deduct the weight of your basket from your strawberries when you’re paying.

3. My strategy? I only bring one basket for all my kids to share. I’ll let you in on a little secret. It’s virtually impossible to stop picking giant, red, ripe strawberries. Just try it. You’ll fail. Having one basket we can fill up prevents us from experiencing that awful moment when you realize you just spent your entire week’s grocery budget on strawberries.

4. No need to bring wagons. The red, metal wagons are plentiful and free to use.

5. Strawberries are $3.35 a pound. The farm takes cash and credit/debit cards.

6. If you want to bring a picnic lunch, be sure to bring a blanket. There are wide open fields perfect for picnics, but you’ll need a blanket to sit on while you eat.

7. Don’t forget your camera. The drive to Plantersville is beautiful and filled with bluebonnets and wildflowers. And what’s cuter than strawberry picking photos?

Directions:

Take Hwy 6 South to Navasota. Exit 105 and turn left when you get to 105 East (toward Conroe and Plantersville.) Turn right on 1774 and go one mile. Turn left on CR 203. Go 1.7 miles. New Beginning Farm will be on your left.

How long is the drive?

From the Greens Prairie Exit it was almost exactly 30 minutes from College Station.

Sunday, May 5

Lemonade Day is a city-wide event where kids set up their own lemonade stands and sell lemonade to the community. Kids get to keep what they earn. Through this experience, children of all ages learn the value of setting goals, developing a business plan, establishing a budget, seeking investors, providing customer service, and giving back to their community. How it works: —-> Kids get a Lemonade Day Backpack that includes a fun and instructive Entrepreneur’s Workbook. —-> Then on May 1, each kid sets up their lemonade stand at the time and location of their choice and sells lemonade to the community. To sign-up and for more information, visit http://bcs.lemonadeday.org.
