The City of College Station’s Lincoln Recreation Center will mark Juneteenth 2012 with a number of events.  Uniquely Texan, Juneteenth is now recognized and commemorated across the United States and around the world, marking the emancipation of African American slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865.  Juneteenth has been an official Texas state holiday since 1980.

All events are free of charge, and the entire community is welcome.  Special thanks to College Station Parks & Recreation, The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, and the many African American organizations and youth development agencies contributing to Juneteenth 2012 events.

For additional information, contact Lincoln Recreation Center Supervisor Lance Jackson at 979.764.3779 or at ljackson@cstx.gov.

Sunday, June 17

Beginning at 6 p.m., relax outside the Lincoln Recreational Center and enjoy jazz, blues and R&B from local band Golden Groove.
